CROCUS SATIVA (Saffron)

Crocus sativa is a Iridaceae group of plant commonly known as saffron. It introduced Homoeopathy after proving on Dr. Stapf. Crocus is wildly growth in middle east. It attracts its attention by its brick red color. It produces haemorrhage when taking in large and over increasing dose which has darkish brick red hue that similar to its color (Doctraine of signature). Homoeopathic medicine is prepared from long stigma as well as portion of the style of the crocus flower.

This medicine is mainly used for treatment of menorrhagia, dysmenorrhea, hysteria, phantom pregnancy.

          *** Mind symptoms:

The mind symptoms of Crocus are peculiar and distinguished to other Homoeopathic medicine. It produces extreme change in sensation of mind. One time the person is very much happy and laughing next time laughing is ending with tear. So, it is useful for treating insanity, when the person behaves one time laughing and another time crying. Sudden feels greatest hilarity followed by despondency. They also perceive a peculiar sensation that something alive is remain is her abdomen, chest, arms. Therefore, its useful for the treatment of phantom pregnancy (Thuja, Sulphur).  

          Actually, mentally healthy women cannot feel this type of abnormal sensation. Several factors are responsible for developing this type of condition. For an example, a woman who has continuous going under the pressure of being mother from her family & society then she has suffered from inferiority complex, that emotionally hurt her. To get mental satisfaction she created a new world in her mind that she is pregnant and imaginary feel its sensation. When this condition become persist without appropriate treatment or support, then she undergoes hallucination; that her believes of abnormal sensation & conditions are transformed into reality. So, mental support is an important factor to protect a person from this type of disability.

Extreme joy may bring hysteria. During the state of hysteria, the person may laugh, dancing, kissing or it may alternate into rag, repentance.

          *** Haemorrhage:

Crocus produce haemorrhage from orifice of the body especially from nose and uterus, therefore its Homoeopathic potency useful to stopping bleeding per nose and uterus. The blood is dark red in color, coming down to the surface & hangs up as long strings (kali bichrome, hydrastis). Bleeds from one nostril.

          *** Female disorder:

It is useful in case of dysmenorrhea & menorrhagia if bleeding character is present. The patient may suffer from headache before, during and after menses.

          *** Eye symptoms:

Visual hallucination. Sees room is full of smoke. Sensation as if eyes are covered with mucous. This sensation is feels just after weeping.

          *** Arms & back:

Crocus produce twitching & tingling of muscles of arm and back.

          *** General modalities:

All the symptoms of Crocus aggravated in hot weather, lying down, motion, extreme joy, warm room and ameliorated in wide open air.
